Describing Myself!

Describe myself? Alright… mind you readers out there that this prompt is pretty difficult to write about, so be kind…
My name is Phalai Frink and I am 16 years old. Like every other teenager this is a strange stage in my life. Trying to figure out what life is about and trying to figure out who I am. I got some pimples here and there on my face, but I guess I’m a decent looking person. Anyways, back to describing myself. On Saipan, I am considered tall. I am about 5’6-5’7. When I was a kid, I would tower over all the other girls and boys; I am still much taller than many of my classmates.
My ethnicity is Cambodian, but I am an American citizen. I was born in Cambodia, but when I was 3 years old I was adopted by two loving people and brought over to Saipan. I do not remember much about Cambodia or my biological parents. Cambodia is located in Southeast Asia next to Thailand. Although, I am Cambodian, I do not have the typical Khmer look.
Cambodian women have jet black straight hair, where as I have thick long curly hair. Not a typical feature for Cambodian people. I have big eyes, full lips, and compared to Cambodian women I am super tall. When I visited Cambodia, I noticed that most of the women and teenagers I saw were short, had straight hair, and were very delicate looking, where as I am tall and muscular. I also noticed that I am a lot darker than a lot of the Khmer people, which makes me wonder if my biological father was of another race because I look nothing like my mother; not there’s anything wrong in looking different, I just wonder.
Personality wise, I would say I am a very outgoing person (My English teacher Mr. Lee would totally agree with this.) I am very loud, which is sometimes a good thing and not so much of a good thing. Being loud is good for when I want to be heard, but sometimes I’m too loud when I don’t need to be. Oh well, at least I’m being heard. When I say I’m an outgoing person, I mean that I do or will do or say things some people might think I’m weird for doing, but I like being eccentric.
What I love to do in my free time is to PLAY SPORTS!!! I am an athlete. If I am not in school or at home, I am usually somewhere else playing a sport. My favorite sports are soccer, volleyball and basketball. If you count dancing as a sport, I am also a dancer. Soccer and volleyball are my top sports. My school, Saipan International, has a volleyball league every school year and every year I join. We train and then play other schools. I love playing the school league because I get to play and compete with my classmates and friends. As for soccer, soccer is my number one sport. I probably train hardest for soccer because I love it so much. I love playing the game. Saipan has a Women’s National Soccer team that I’ve been playing with for a long time and I’m doing well and having fun. The type of dancing I do is called Tahitian. Its Polynesian dancing consisting of shaking and moving the hips. I’ve been dancing for nine years. Basketball and dancing are just sports that I do for fun and just enjoy.

Well, that is basically everything I know about myself! This prompt was difficult but I did it! Thank you and Have a nice day.

New Year's Resolution

In 2013, which is still now, all the resolutions that I had written out on a piece of paper at the beginning of sophomore class, I have achieved. Goals like: pass my first Advance Placement Exam, get a summer job, and lick one of the buildings in Machu Picchu, Peru. Now I am a junior in high school and need a new list of goals.
I have written three goals that I will try to achieve when the year 2014 comes rolling in. My first goal for 2014 would be to pass all my Advanced Placement Courses. Advanced Placement Courses are college level courses that are offered to students in some high schools to further help them get into top-ranking colleges. In my school, Saipan International School, the school offers AP classes to students who are in 10th, 11th, or 12th grade. You cannot take the AP classes if you are a freshman. When I was in 10th grade I took my very first AP class, AP U.S History. It was a very intense and vigorous class and I had to work very hard, but it all paid off in the end. This summer, summer of 2013, I got the scored that I was hoping to get and I was so happy. This year I am taking three AP classes: AP States, AP English Language and Composition, and AP European History. I don’t know how I am going to juggle three AP classes and do regular homework, but I will do it! For me, passing an AP Exam is getting a 4 or 5. Wish me luck!

My second goal for 2014 is to lose five pounds. I want to lose five pounds because I saw a beautiful dress I want to wear to Prom. I was taking a walk in downtown Saipan when I passed a dress shop and saw in the window a beautiful pink dress. It had rhinestone diamonds stitched onto the bosom of the dress running down the side, ending with a big rhinestone broach. The rest of the dress was pure pink silk fabric. It was lovely. I went inside the shop because I just had to try it on, but when the helper tried to zip up the back of the dress, it didn’t fit! I was completely humiliated and embarrassed, but I wanted so bad to wear the dress, so now when 2014 comes, I’ll be in the gym every day running on the treadmill.

My third and last goal for 2014 is to improve my soccer skills. I would love to improve my soccer skills. If I improve my soccer skills, I will be able to play the sport better. I want to play the sport better than how I played in 2013. In 2014, I want my coach to say to me, “Phalai, you have gotten so much better in soccer. You have worked very hard on your skills. Your skills are very good now. Continue to work.”  I would love to hear that. I have been playing soccer since I was 4 years old and I’m 16 now, so I think I’m a decent player. Soccer is my life and I just want to play the game better. I love soccer and I enjoy playing it, but I want to feel that I’m improving. In 2013 I joined the CNMI Saipan National Women Soccer team. We played Saipan rivalry island, Guam. It was one of the best experiences I’ve lived. I had so much fun playing against Guam, even though we got beat pretty hard. Even though Guam beat us, it caused me to want to improve my skills in soccer. This is my last goal, to improve my soccer skills in 2014.
